FRIDAY FARM SCHOOL
$35/Day | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Our Friday Farm School is a gentle, Waldorf-inspired program where children slow down and connect with nature, animals, and the rhythms of the land. In a world that often rushes childhood, we offer something different—unhurried time to explore, create, and simply be.
Here, learning unfolds naturally through doing.
Children collect warm eggs straight from the coop, observing their different colours and markings. They cradle soft rabbits in their arms, learning gentleness and care. They stretch and laugh during playful “goat yoga,” forming joyful connections with our animals. These daily interactions nurture empathy, responsibility, and a deep respect for living things—lessons that cannot be taught from a worksheet.
With dirt under their fingernails and sunshine on their faces, children engage in meaningful, hands-on work:
-
Gathering eggs and helping care for our animals
-
Cuddling rabbits and bonding with our gentle goats
-
Exploring the forest and farm and open-ended natural play spaces
-
Painting with watercolours inspired by the colours of the land
-
Keeping simple nature journals—sketching and labelling parts of plants they observe
-
Creating seasonal crafts using natural materials
This is a space where imagination is protected, senses are awakened, and childhood is honoured.
Through movement, storytelling, art, and real-life farm experiences, children develop confidence, creativity, and a true connection to the world around them.
A Childhood Worth Remembering
If you’ve ever wished for your child to spend more time outside…
to feel comfortable with animals…
to come home happily tired, a little dirty, and full of stories…
This is that place.

OUR DAILY RHYTHM
At The Barnyard Classroom, our year flows gently with the heartbeat of the seasons. Our curriculum reflects seasonal changes, we listen closely to the whispers of the earth and allow nature herself to guide our learning journey. Each season brings its own gifts—planting seeds in the soft rains of spring, gathering the harvests of fall, watching the quiet life of winter’s wildlife, and basking in the long, luminous days of summer.
Our lessons are woven into the cycles of the land and the rhythms of farm life. Children move alongside the changing landscape, discovering the deep connections between soil, seed, animal, and human. They come to understand, in body and spirit, the sacred dance of life that unfolds around them.
By attuning to nature’s rhythms, we open space for wonder, inquiry, and a heartfelt appreciation for the beauty and wisdom found in each season’s turning.
Schedule
10:00 AM - 10:20 AM
Arrival & Outdoor Play
Our mornings begin with a gentle arrival, allowing children to transition from home to the rhythm of the farm. Between 10:00 and 10:20 a.m., families are welcomed with warmth and familiarity—time for greetings, hanging up belongings, and saying goodbyes at a comfortable pace. Children are invited to explore the outdoor space, and engage in outdoor play as the group gathers.
10:20 AM - 10:30 AM
Morning Circle
(Outdoor Gathering)
We begin our day outside, greeting one another and welcoming the morning with a grounding activity. This may include a nature observation, a song, a short story, or mindful breathing to connect with the world around us. We set intentions for the day and discuss what’s happening on the farm.
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Animal Care
We move into our morning animal visits, where children are invited into the gentle, meaningful care of our animals. Together, we gather eggs from the coop, noticing their warmth and colour, refill water, and help prepare feed. Children softly hold and cuddle rabbits, learning to be calm, patient, and respectful, and spend time with our goats through quiet interaction and playful movement. Through these daily rhythms, children develop empathy, responsibility, and a deep connection to the animals and the life of the farm.
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Lunch
We gather together for a nourishing meal, fostering community and conversation.
12:00 PM - 12:10 PM
Literature & Creative Arts Circle
After lunch, children relax with a nature-based story, or poetry reading, creating a peaceful transition to the afternoon.
12:10 PM - 12:30 PM
Story-Inspired Crafting
Following our literature circle, the children bring the circle to life through handwork and art. Each craft is thoughtfully chosen to deepen their connection to literature—perhaps weaving a nest after reading about forest birds, shaping beeswax figures from a folk tale, or painting scenes inspired by the changing seasons. These activities allow the children to move from imagination into creation, transforming what they’ve heard into something they can touch and see. Through this gentle rhythm of story and craft, the children strengthen comprehension, fine motor skills, and their capacity for creative expression—all while experiencing the joy of meaningful, beauty-filled work.
12:30 PM - 12:50 PM
Farm Chores
Children turn their attention to the garden. We gather our tools and move into purposeful work: watering plants, loosening soil, harvesting vegetables, or collecting seeds for next season.
12:50-1:00 PM
Closing Circle
(Reflection & Gratitude)
We come together to reflect on our day, share discoveries, and express gratitude. This may include storytelling, a short meditation, or sharing highlights from the day before we say our goodbyes.
1:00 PM
Afternoon Depature
As the day gently draws to a close, children enjoy a period of free play in the playground, where laughter, imagination, and friendship flow freely. This unstructured time allows them to unwind from the day’s work—climbing, building, creating stories, or simply resting under a favorite tree.
