Farm Fresh Produce

As part of our hands-on program, students at The Barnyard Classroom grow, harvest, and sell their own seasonal farm-fresh produce. This experience teaches them valuable skills in farming, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Stop by our farm stand to shop, email us to place an order, and follow us on Instagram for updates on what’s in stock!

OUR POLICIES

At The Barnyard Classroom, we operate on an honor system. We accept e-transfer and cash, making it easy for our visitors to support our farm stand and student-run initiatives. Cash can be placed in the secure lockbox at the farm stand, while e-transfers can be sent to thebarnyardclassroom@gmail.com. This system is an essential part of our student learning experience, as they gain hands-on knowledge about business operations, profits, and sales.

While visiting, we encourage you to engage with our farm stand! Take a moment to read about our Employee of the Week, leave a note for our students with your feedback or words of encouragement, and check out our community bulletin board, where you can leave a business card or find local connections.

Do you have a small business and want to showcase your handmade products, artwork, or other creative work? We’d love to feature your items at our farm stand! Send us an email to discuss opportunities.

Thank you for supporting our students and our farm community!

HOW TO CARE FOR FARM FRESH EGGS

Our Eggs Are Fully Washed & Ready to Enjoy

Our farm-fresh eggs are fully washed before pickup, so they’re clean, safe, and ready to use as soon as you bring them home.

Because washing removes the egg’s natural protective coating (called the bloom), proper storage is important. Here’s everything you need to know:

Farm-fresh eggs are a little different from store-bought ones, and with proper care, they stay fresh and delicious for weeks! Here’s what you need to know:

Why We Wash Our Eggs

  • Clean & convenient — no dirt or debris

  • Food-safe — meets modern handling standards

  • Ready to refrigerate immediately

  • Perfect for families and everyday cooking

How to Store Washed Eggs

Since our eggs are washed, they must be refrigerated.

  • Store eggs in the fridge at or below 4°C (40°F)

  • Keep them in their carton to protect freshness and prevent absorbing fridge odors

  • Do not leave washed eggs at room temperature

When refrigerated properly, washed farm-fresh eggs stay fresh for 4–6 weeks (often longer).

How to Tell If an Egg Is Still Fresh

You can use the float test if you’re unsure:

  • Sinks and lays flat → very fresh

  • Stands upright but stays submerged → still good

  • Floats → discard

Cooking with Farm-Fresh Eggs

Farm eggs often have:

  • Richer yolk color

  • Firmer whites

  • Deeper flavor than store-bought eggs

Because they’re fresher, they can be a little harder to peel when hard-boiled.
💡 Tip: Try steaming instead of boiling for easier peeling.
